Miami County Cattlemen's Association
 

MCCA Purpose
  • Provide a communication link between all segments of the beef cattle industry in Miami County, Ohio
  • Promote the Beef Industry
  • Assist and encourage  4-H and FFA youth with beef projects
  • Provide directors to the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association
  • Promote a positive focus on the importance of a sound agricultural economy within the local community and the state of Ohio

The Miami County Cattlemen are contributing to the promotion of the beef industry by:

  • Holding three Lunches on the Courthouse Lawn Annually.  One lunch is held in June, one in September and another in October.  More than 500 people eat a nutritious beef lunch at these events.
  • Providing lunch for local, state, and national elected officials at the annual County Government week Brown Bag Lunch in April.
  • Setting up a booth and selling ribeye and chopped sirloin sandwiches at the Piqua Heritage Festival
  • Taking part in Beef Promotion Month in June by participating in the Troy Strawberry Festival parade
  • Various beef promotions throughout the Miami County Fair, such as– sponsoring the born-and-raised steer and heifer shows, sponsoring awards for showmanship, providing breakfast for beef exhibitors, cooking chopped sirloin sandwiches for buyers during the jr. fair sale, hosting the beef exhibitor fun day, and cooking chopped sirloin sandwiches the night of the steer/heifer show.
  • Holding an annual Miami County Beef Queen contest
  • Assisting the Miami County Sr. and Jr. Fairboard with Junior 4-H exhibitor beef breeding, steer, and market heifer projects.


BORN AND RAISED SHOW:  TO NOMINATE A BEEF ANIMAL FOR THE BORN & RAISED SHOW, THE BREEDER MUST BE A CURRENT MEMBER OF THE MIAMI CATTLEMANS ASSN. AS WELL AS PAY A PER HEAD NOMINATION FEE. FEES COLLECTED WILL BE PAID OUT AS PRIZE MONEY TO EXHIBITORS OF THE BORN & RAISED SHOW.

Congrats to our 2011 MCCA Beef Queen, Lexie Durham!

Lexie Durham, a member of the Junior Maine-Anjou Association and a ten year member of the Union Township Meat Producers 4-H Club, was recently chosen to be the 2011 Miami County Beef Industry Queen. Durham was interviewed by a panel of judges and was required to write a paper concerning the topic of herd bull use verses the practice of artificial insemination. She was also required to discuss her high school activities, community service activities, and plans for the future. As the Miami County Beef Industry Queen, Durham will represent the beef industry at various events and functions.

Durham has exhibited cattle at the North American in Louisville, Kentucky, the Ohio Beef Expo, Best Shows, and at the Darke County Fair. She has won numerous grand and reserve champion awards with her cattle. She was the recipient of the Miami County 4-H Beef Award in 2010. Durham, an eighteen year old Troy High School senior, has been active in high school sports such as cross- country, soccer, swimming, and track. She has also been a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club, and symphonic choir. She is a senior leadership candidate and a teacher aide. She also volunteers to help a student with reading at Concord Elementary School.

She has been awarded a merit scholarship based on her academic performance from Otterbein University and will pursue a degree in global studies this fall.
